montana pbs youth hunt for elk and deer

Event will be a long weekend hunt in September, possibly early October – TBD.
Montana has discounted youth licenses, but the hunters may be required to pass a bowhunters ed class in addition to the regular hunters ed class.
Youth hunters must be proficient with their bows and have appropriate gear to hunt big game animals.
Youth hunters must be under 18 years of age.

Event will run from Thursday 10/9-Tuesday 10/13 allowing for day before orientation and day after departure.
Season is October 10,11 and 12 Saturday through Monday (Columbus Day is Monday).
Minimum bow weight of 30 pounds.
Must be under 18 years of age.
In addition to Youth Deer Hunt Permit ($10.50-purchase in person at a license vendor), all eligible youth hunters must have a current, valid Apprentice or Youth Hunting License (either $7.50-online or at vendor), or they must have completed a State-approved Hunter Education course and have a hunting license, unless exempt.
Blaze orange hat and vest required.
Accompanying adult must have valid Illinois hunting license ($57.75, or $35.75 for a 5-day license). Local licensed hunter could accompany youth rather than guardian/parent if desired.
Dinners will be communal. Breakfast and lunch may be depending on circumstances but simple breakfast before morning hunt is expected. Coffee will be brewed and available.

Bowhunt Dates are October 9-11.
Bowhunt is for PBS Young Bowhunters, ages 12 to 17, of PBS members in goods standing.
Bowhunter must have a valid 2026 MI Deer Hunting license
Bowhunter must be capable of hunting independently or a parent/volunteer must hunt with them.
For hunters who can hunt independently and are able climb safely, there will be hang on stands and a few ladder stands to choose from.
For hunters who need a parent or volunteer with them, they will need to hunt out of a blind.
There will be a few blinds available for use.
Tent camping available. There is a large garage area people can set up a cot that will be community sleeping.
Bathroom will be available (will rent portable outhouse depending on number of people).
Minimum bow weight 30 lbs
Trad bow preferred but compound ok for those unable to competently pull 30 lbs trad bow

We would like up to 4 youth for this hunt accompanied by a parent or sponsor.
This will be a 3-4 day hunt on my property from preset tree stands or ground blinds.
Anyone who hunts out of a tree stand MUST wear a safety harness-if you don’t have one I will have some available for you to use. If you don’t have a bow Please let me know and I will have one for you to use ( Thanks to the Wisconsin Traditional Archers loner program)
If you have your own bow it must be the legal weight for hunting in WI that is 30 lbs and you will need a valid WI bow hunting licence
Anyone with special needs please let me know ahead of time.
All you hunters must have a WI hunter safety certificate Adult sponsor/mentor if hunting must have a valid WI hunting licence and must be a PBS member.
This will be a tent camping event there will be a toilet available and a shower if you respect my home ( this is not a hunting hunting cabin)

For youth 12-17 years old. Boys & Girls are welcome to participate.
This opportunity is for 2-4 PBS Young Bowhunters with their parent/mentor or a sponsor who is a PBS member in good standing.
This will be a 2-day event, including bowfishing from a boat and/or wet-wading opportunities. These options are necessary, as we may encounter different flow stages of the rivers and creeks due to fluctuations in the weather.
This hunt will take place on the lower Susquehanna River and/ or Northeastern Maryland (Joppa Area). We will go where the conditions will be the most favorable. The species we will be encountering are carp, quill back, blue, flathead catfish, invasive goldfish, snakehead & stingrays ( variable on location )
Typically, we head out at dusk and shoot until the wee hours of the morning, but this can be decided in the heat of the moment.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own bowfishing bow setup. There will be a limited number of bowfishing rigs ready to go in the event that we need a replacement.
PA law required a valid fishing license for anyone over the age of 16 to bowfish.
Maryland license will be covered for participants as the boat has a license that will cover those on board.
Any participant with special needs please let us know beforehand so we can make the appropriate accommodations.
Lodging will not be provided for this hunt; there are plenty of Air B&Bs and hotels available in the area. The boat does not have a bathroom but most of the launches will have one available.
Attendees should plan on wearing clothing that is suitable to get wet and bring a long sleeve shirt as it can get chilly at night during the boat ride. Proper foot attire like deck boots or an old pair of sneakers as you will be standing most of the time on the boat or wading. A headlamp for nighttime and a pair of polarized glasses for daytime shooting.
Bugs can get pretty bad as they are attracted to the lights on the boat. Please be prepared.
Depending on location we will either have a home cooked meal before going or have a meal at a restaurant. Feel free to bring snacks and drinks if you wish, there will be some snacks and drinks on the boat.
Things that will be covered:
- Boat safety
- Fish ID
- Protocol once a fish is on board
- Water navigation
- Location areas to bow fish/ E-scouting
- Fish cleaning and proper disposal & public relations
