My name is Randy Brookshier and I live in Southwest Va. I guess I have pretty much been shooting a bow my whole life, as archery was a big part of my dad's life.  I started shooting a bow with him when I was four.

I shot throughout my teen years and ended up competing on my college archery team (Probably should have spent more time paying attention to my classes rather then pulling a string). After college I went to work for the police department and shot compounds for Hoyt for about five years. It was interesting and I learned a lot traveling around and shooting for Hoyt, but I was missing something and after all of those years of serious competition, I was starting to loose interest in archery. In the fall of 1989 I picked up a used Brackenbury recurve and was hooked. Sold all of my compounds and never looked back.

I joined P.B.S. in about 1983 or so and became a Regular member in about 1990. I am fortunate enough to live in an area with very liberal deer seasons and a high population. I can start deer hunting with my bow in September and hunt through February. In a lot of the nearby counties I can shoot two deer a day with bonus tags. So.. I hunt a LOT. We have good populations of bear, turkeys and small game, plus I have been fortunate enough to hunt numerous states and Canada.

I retired from the police department in 2014 after 31 years. The last 20 or so I served as the lead firearms instructor and range master at our regional police academy. After being off and pretty much hunting full time, including several P.B.S. membership hunts, I went back to work in February of 2017. Back into police work and teaching a lot, doing a lot of Active Shooter training and Rapid response.  I am married and my  wife is incredibly supportive of my passion for bows. I have two grown sons who are also avid traditional archers and they have given me three grand daughters that I have already set aside archery tackle for. I also have one daughter who occasionally shoots a bow with me but her interest lies with several horses that we have and is preparing for her first year of college.

I shoot a bow just about everyday of the year and enjoy my old Bears, ILF bows and Howard Hill longbows. I have more bows in the house than I guess I can ever use, but I figure if I don't get the chance to wear them out, my son's can have a hand at it.
