VIRTUAL RABBIT HUNT
JANUARY 13th- 14TH, 2024
second annual virtual rabbit hunt results (2024)
A significant portion of the US experienced severe cold and extreme wind chills with some areas having blizzard-like conditions on the weekend of the Virtual Rabbit Hunt so an emergency extension was granted until February 29, 2024.
Surprisingly, 45 members from 19 states were still able to take to the woods, fields, and hills in spite of the weather and I know of more folks intending to do makeup hunts later this week or in early February. Jesse Johnson from Texas and Chris DeWitt from New York both bagged cottontails during the original hunt dates. Ok, now for the shocker, Shan Mandrayer of Iowa actually got a deer (Missouri) while doing his Virtual Rabbit Hunt!
States represented included New York, Virginia, North Carolina, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Texas, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, and Alaska! I’ve heard that several members had their kids along and a couple new members were signed up.
I’m certain we will add a number of additional member-participants in the next couple of weeks to our list and more bunnies to the bag making this a very successful 2nd Virtual Rabbit Hunt in spite of Mother Nature’s tossing us a wicked polar vortex.
Addendum: quite a few additional member got out during the extended Virtual Rabbit Hunt bringing the total to 72 participants from 24 states/countries (US and Italy) with 11 rabbits brought to bag. Additional rabbits were arrowed by Ryan Bowers of Texas, Forrest Cain of South Dakota, Steve Hohensee of Wyoming, Rob Burnham of Virginia, and Mark Wang of Georgia.

first annual virtual rabbit hunt results (2023)
Our 1st Annual Virtual Rabbit Hunt was held on Saturday 14 January of this year. We had over 50 participants from 19 states and 1 Canadian province hit the field, solo, pairs, and up to 18 people in one group! We gained a few new members and several guys made sure and got some kids into the woods. From snowshoe hare hunters in New Hampshire, Montana, and Alaska to cottontail hunters from Louisiana to Arizona and a dozen states in between, we covered a huge chunk of real estate.
Someone must have leaked the word to the bunnies that we’d be out in force and they were (mostly) prepared to run away or hide! I managed to bag a pair of Wyoming cottontails and Luke Chase pulled a concession prize gray squirrel from a Kansas treetop but as a group, we were largely outwitted by our quarry. Rascally rabbits.
Overall it was a beautiful day to be out in the woods and hills and hopefully we’ll nudge a few more of you into participating in future events.
A huge THANK YOU to our members who volunteered to donate door prizes as follows:
-Drop Point Hunter knife donated by Justin Wells of H&S Knives
-Dozen Arrows donated by Foster B Cain
-Rocky Boots donated by Matt Schuster
-$50 VISA card donated by Mark Viehweg
-2 Custom Turkey Calls donated by Chris Latona
-Dozen 175 grain ACE Express Broadheads donated by Bruce Vanpelt
Door Prize Winners
1. Allen Clark (turkey call)
2. Jeff Parks (arrows)
3. Paul Hopkins (boots)
4. Joe Lasch (turkey call)
5. Steve Spence (knife)
6. Zach Larsen (broadheads)
7. Bubba Graves (gift card)
